Pilot – Research Reassigned Time (RRT) Program
Support for faculty research is a high priority. Given that we are entering a challenging budget period, we are launching a pilot Research Reassigned Time (RRT) program that will be a proof of concept for future years. This program will provide eligible faculty who have a full 18-unit instructional load to apply for 3 units of reassigned time during the next academic year. Faculty must be “research active” based on criteria established and published by the three schools (see below) and will be selected, following a short application process, by a school committee.
Faculty who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply for a limited number of 3 unit grants of research reassigned time (RRT) to be undertaken during the 2023-24 academic year:
- Full-time tenured faculty who will be beyond their contract reassigned time eligibility during the 2023-24 year
- Are projected to have a full 18-unit teaching load in 2023-24
- Does not have other RRT through, for example, a named chair, a temporary load reduction as part of a retention offer, and so on
- Not on fellowship or other research leave during 2023-24
- Department chairs are eligible, as are faculty who have RT for significant administrative service, such as deputy chair or program director. However, with the exception of department chairs, faculty may not use this program to reduce their teaching load to zero units in a semester.
- RRT is not “bankable” and must be used during the 2023-24 academic year
- Faculty with more than 3 units of workload surplus or deficit must first rectify their workload balance before receiving RRT
- Faculty are research active as determined by criteria established by their school
Submit your application by filling out this Qualtrics form. You will need to provide the following information:
- Narrative: 500-word maximum description of the research to be undertaken if RRT is approved
- Explicit output made possible by the RRT [article submission; book chapter submission; progress toward manuscript completion; exhibition; performance; data collection and analysis; significant grant proposal development ($250K or higher); other (please specify)]
- Your Interfolio CV will be reviewed by the selection committee. Please make sure it is updated.
Timeline:
February 27th: call for proposals
March 15th: applications due
April 1st: decisions finalized

Post-award report
No later than May 15, 2024, faculty receiving RRT in this program, whether funded centrally or by the school, must report the completion of or progress toward the completion of the RRT output in the application. Eligibility for future cycles will require the timely completion of the report.
