Teaching and Learning
The Division of Teaching and Learning supports the work of faculty and enhances the student academic experience by working directly with both constituencies. Faculty development focused on teaching is a major feature of both the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and the Bernard L. Schwartz Communication Institute. Both also work with members of the faculty on curricular design. The development of the college’s curricula, both undergraduate and graduate, are a significant aspect of the work of the associate provost of teaching and learning.
Other units within the division work directly with students, including the Student Academic Consulting Center (SACC), the Writing Center, and theTools for Clear Speech Program, which focuses on improving oral intelligibility in English among students who are non-native speakers. Another unit in our division that provides direct support to students—in this case both academic and non-academic support—is the Honors Program. The Schwartz Institute also works with students of the faculty teaching Communication Intensive Courses (CICs).
Assessment of student learning and services for members of the adjunct faculty are additional areas of focus for the division, as is communication with the entire faculty about numerous issues, ranging from grading deadlines to policies and procedures related to academic integrity.
