Presentation Topics and Presenters

 

From the South Bronx to Southampton: Connecting Climate Change, Wastewater, and Ecosystem Health.  Presented by Chester B. Zarnoch, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Environmental Studies

Prof. Zarnoch will discuss how New York's coastal ecosystems process excess nitrogen inputs and the implications for habitat restoration.

 

Urbanization and Climate Change Hazards in Asia

Presented by Deborah Balk, Ph.D, Associate Director, CUNY Institute for Demographic Research

Professor Balk will showcase new methods and results of estimating city growth and populations at the risk of coastal and in-land flooding, and increasing aridity associated with climate change.

 

Soil, Oil, Plastics and the Hydrocarbon Economy

Presented by Samantha MacBride, Ph. D, Assistant Professor, School of Public Affairs.

Professor MacBride will discuss local and global citizens' movements linking food justice to climate change as well as the role of corporations that plan to reproduce the fossil fuel economy using bio-based inputs to production.  Composting, incineration, plastics recycling, and other methods of conversion of hydrocarbon-rich municipal wastes will also be addressed.
