On July 1, 2016, Allison Lehr Samuels will become director of Baruch College’s Center for Teaching and Learning, succeeding the interim director, Prof. Kannan Mohan, who will return full time to the Department of Statistics and Computer Information Systems.

Allison is a Lecturer in the Narendra Paul Loomba Department of Management with a focus on Entrepreneurship, and is a Field Mentor at the Lawrence N. Field Center for Entrepreneurship. She is a recipient of the Zicklin Hybrid and Online Teaching with Technology Award for her work developing and teaching online and hybrid courses. Recent work includes collaborating with Prof. Zoe Sheehan SaldaƱa (Weissman School of Arts and Sciences) and Monica Dean (Lawrence N. Field Center for Entrepreneurship) to found Maker Hub, the Baruch College makerspace and to also develop a new interdisciplinary special topics course focusing on the intersection of ideation, entrepreneurship, design, and 3D printing technology. Allison affirms that she values what she has learned from collaborating and experimenting with her colleagues and looks forward to learning from and working with faculty across Baruch. Prof. Cheryl Smith, of the Department of English, will work with Allison in her continuing role as the CTL’s faculty liaison.

Kannan Mohan brought extraordinary expertise and enthusiam to his work since last summer as the CTL’s interim director. Under his leadership, the CTL has made substantive progress in supporting teaching across all disciplines at Baruch and was the recipient of a $600,000 CUNY Strategic Investment Initiative Grant, for “Improving Learning Outcomes in Courses with Structured Knowledge through Adaptive Learning Technologies.” Kannan’s efforts have been recognized via his receipt of a Presidential Excellence Award for Service for 2016. We thank him hugely for his efforts and many successes.
