ANNA IN THE TROPICS
by Nilo Cruz
directed by Christopher Scott
Tuesday, November 13 thru Saturday, November 17 at 7:30PM
The Bernie West Theatre, 17 Lexington Avenue, 9th Floor
From: Professor Eric Krebs, Theatre Chair, Department of Fine and Performing Arts:
Christopher Scott directs a cast of Baruch students in Nilo Cruz's 2003 Pulitzer Prize Winning drama of impossible love. In 1929 a stranger comes to Ybor City, Florida from Cuba. Juan Julian is handsome, poetic, and the embodiment time honored traditions. He is a "lector," the reader who entertains workers as they roll cigars in the Cuban tradition. The first book that Juan Julian reads to the cigar factory workers is Anna Karenina. Tolstoy’s examination of longing, love, and betrayal parallels the lives of the factory workers and forever changes their world. Passions are ignited, affairs are consummated, and hearts collide, proving the power of love and literature.
There are a limited number of seats remaining, so we strongly encourage you to purchase your tickets soon.
