Please see the message below from Kevin Boyce, our bookstore’s manager. The significant items include:

  • Our bookstore is about to close—to be replaced by Barnes & Noble.
  • That turnover process includes returning books that are now on the shelves to publishers starting Thursday, September 27.
  • Some students routinely do not purchase required texts until later in the semester.
  • Students’ last opportunity to purchase texts for the current semester from our bookstore will be Wednesday, September 26.

Please make sure that your students are aware of this situation.

From:  Kevin Boyce, Regional Manager Follett Higher Education Group

Hello,

In just 6 weeks we will be turning over the location to the new vendor (B&N). A lot of things must happen in order to transition the store and we will need assistance from each of you in order for it to happen in the most efficient manner. Because of the behind the scenes work, equipment, registers, stored paperwork, cleaning, etc…the last day the bookstore will be opened to the public is Friday 10/19/12. On Wednesday 10/24/12, an inventory will be conducted by an independent operator and once everything is in agreement and signed, Follett vacates the premises.

B&N does not buy the current textbooks on the shelves, therefore we must start returning all of them. We are drafting communication that needs to be sent out in multiple forms to reach as many faculty and students that they need to buy their required textbooks by 9/26/12 (some students like to wait until mid-terms, English classes are spread out throughout the semester, etc). We will stuff professor’s mailboxes and post notices on the bookstore’s entrances. We are hoping to forward you the draft so that you can send it out in an email blast as well.

This Monday, 9/17/12, imprinted product (select apparel and gifts) that B&N will not purchase (older, broken size runs, etc), will be on sale at 50%. I will ask Student Life to include this in their weekly message to the students.

I can be reached at the email and phone number listed below, but will not be back to the college until next Thursday, 9/20/12.

Feel free to contact me with any questions.

My 5 years here at The Baruch College Bookstore have been a pleasure and I look forward to working with you again down the line.

Sincerely,

Kevin Boyce
