Baruch College Collaborative Research Travel Grant

Turkey Program Round 1

Deadline: Friday, March 13, 2015 by 5PM

From: Jeff Peck, Vice Provost for Global Strategies

The Program’s Purpose and Philosophy

The purpose of the Collaborative Research Travel Grants (CRTG) Turkey Program is to enhance, through global research collaborations with our partner Institutions in Turkey, the prestige and prominence of Baruch College to a national and international audience. Through direct contact, faculty can explore mutual interests and forge collaborative research agendas.  CRTG will support all travel expenses for faculty members that are part of Baruch’s May 2015 delegation visiting our partner institutions in Turkey. This program is funded by the Vice Provost for Global Strategies, Dean Jeffrey Peck.

As part of our new strategic plan, the College encourages faculty members to address problems that will lead to new and future areas of global research strengths. As part of the “Make a Global Perspective Central to the Baruch Experience” goal, the College’s international and global initiatives seek to create long term research collaborations with our international partner institutions. The goal of CRTG is to establish research collaborations with our partner universities that could be nurtured and sustained. The Global Strategies budget would pay for 4 or 5 faculty members, preferably at least one from each school, to travel with the delegation to Turkey during May 2015.

At the moment, Baruch College has partnerships with the following universities:

            Bilkent University (http://www.bilkent.edu.tr/index.html), Ankara, Turkey

Koc University (https://www.ku.edu.tr/en/about-ku), http://vprd.ku.edu.tr/resource-guide, Istanbul, Turkey

We are in the process of gathering more information from these universities to facilitate collaboration.

 Proposal Development and Structure

  • The program is open to research projects in all disciplines and tenure track or tenured faculty members at all 3 schools are eligible and encouraged to apply.
  • The proposal must involve collaboration between Baruch faculty and a faculty member(s) at a Turkish Partner Institution.
  • The proposal needs to document that the Baruch Faculty member has made contact with appropriate Turkish colleague(s) and there is an interest in exploring long term research collaboration.
  • The proposal should outline a plan for activities to be conducted while in Turkey such as giving lectures, holding seminars, and or collaborative meetings.
  • The proposal should demonstrate that the trip will not be a “one-off,” but the beginning of a continuing connection. A plan outlining post trip strategies for sustaining the collaboration over the long term should be included.
  • Priority will be given to proposals that include research collaboration with a component that would involve undergraduate students.

Proposals should be emailed in a single PDF file by 5pm on Friday, March 13, 2015 to: Melisa Mendez, Associate Director for Pre-Award Administration (melisa.mendez@baruch.cuny.edu).

If you have questions, please contact, Vice Provost for Global Strategies Jeff Peck (Jeffrey.peck@baruch.cuny.edu) or Alan Evelyn (alan.evelyn@baruch.cuny.edu).
