CTL Conversations: “I’m new to Baruch. How do I...?”
Wednesday, February 1, 4:00-5:00pm, NVC 14-266
Have you recently started teaching at Baruch? Bring your questions for an informal discussion on issues ranging from developing meaningful assignments, fostering class participation, classroom management, policies, resources, and more.
CTL Conversations is a time for faculty to come together to informally workshop, brainstorm, and discuss topics related to their teaching. Each week we’ll focus on a new topic and will invite members of the Baruch community who have expertise in the topic to be on hand too. Faculty are welcome to drop in and leave at any point during the session. Refreshments available. RSVP appreciated but not necessary.

CTL Conversations: “Teaching Current Events During Polarizing Times”
Wednesday, February 8, 4:00-5:00pm, NVC 14-266
Share your concerns, questions and resources as we collectively consider how to facilitate meaningful dialogue and intellectual inquiry by the incorporation of current events in the classroom. How do we foster research and analysis? How do we acknowledge and respect Baruch’s unique diversity? How do we model tolerance and respect? How do we acknowledge the fears, joys, and hopes of all our students?
Faculty are welcome to drop in and leave at any point during the session. Refreshments available. RSVP appreciated but not necessary.
CTL Conversations: “What are best practices teaching multilingual writers and speakers?”
Wednesday, February 15, 4:00-5:00pm, Location TBD OR
Thursday, February 16, 12:30-1:30pm, NVC 14-266
Baruch’s student body has a significant number of students who are multilingual and who may be experiencing the American educational system for the first time. How do we strengthen the communication skills of these students? How do we encourage class participation and design assignments that engage all of our students? What are resources that the college offers to help students and faculty?
Sign up for one or both sessions. Faculty are welcome to drop in and leave at any point during the session. Refreshments available. RSVP appreciated but not necessary.
CTL Conversations: “Data and Privacy in the Classroom”
Wednesday, February 22, 4:00-5:00pm, NVC 14-266
What kind of data do we collect on our students in the course of developing our assignments and curriculum? How and where is this information being stored? When does our request for personal reflection and disclosure become intrusive? Who has access to the work that is being done by our students in our classes?
Faculty are welcome to drop in and leave at any point during the session. Refreshments available. RSVP appreciated but not necessary.
Workshop: “Strategies for Active Learning”
Monday, February 27, 3:00-4:00pm, Location TBD
Active learning (sometimes called student-centered learning) is an instructional method that focuses on building skills, competencies, and critical thinking abilities by engaging students in active behaviors in classroom. This workshop will introduce faculty to several active learning techniques and allow time for attendees to develop a lesson plan that incorporates these strategies. Please click here to RSVP.
