CALL FOR PROPOSALS: Course Enhancement Grants, AY 2012-13
Open to any faculty member at Baruch, regardless of rank, the Valentín Lizana y Parragué Course Enhancement grants will fund activities within courses that involve taking students outside the classroom in intellectually and socially enriching trips that complement the learning goals of the course. Named after the grandfather of a committed Baruch benefactor, the Valentín Lizana y Parragué Endowed Chair in Latin American Studies was established to give visibility to the lives, histories and experiences of Latin American, Latino and Black populations in the context of Baruch College. The Course Travel grants will give preference to courses and activities that involve a strong focus on issues of social justice and inequality, particularly in the areas of class, race, or nationality. The activities could include, but are certainly not limited to: attending museum exhibits, theatre/cinema productions, visiting public intellectuals, authors, and activists, undertaking guided tours of neighborhoods, visits to libraries, archival collections or research sites, or visits to community organizations, among others.
To be considered for this grant, faculty members should send a course syllabus, a one-page description of how this activity would fit into the course’s learning goals, and a budget by Friday, May 4, 2012. Decisions will be made shortly after.
All documents must be sent to:
Ana Y. Ramos-Zayas, Department of Black and Hispanic Studies, NVC 4-282
Sponsored by the Valenín Lizana y Parragué Endowed Chair.
CALL FOR PROPOSALS: Student-Faculty Travel Grant, AY 2012-13
Open to any Baruch student and faculty member, regardless of rank, the Valentín Lizana y Parragué Travel Grant aims to encourage research-related travel to other parts of the U.S. and, in some cases, abroad.

The grant especially encourages research related to issues of race, class, and social justice. To be considered for this grant the faculty member would have to submit the above mentioned materials by Friday, May 4, 2012. Funds from this grant could also be used in conjunction with other Baruch or outside funding and the intention of doing that should be stated in the one-page description.
