Dear Members of the Faculty,

It gives me great pleasure to invite you to this year’s Convocation ceremony as we begin the new academic year 2013-2014.

Freshman Convocation will begin this year at 12:00 PM in Mason Hall on Tuesday August 27th and will feature remarks by President Wallerstein, Provost Christy, Vice President Corpus, the incoming Student Government President, as well as a keynote address by Karen Thompson Walker, author of this year’s freshman text, The Age of Miracles. The ceremony will conclude with a rousing sing along of the Baruch Alma Mater, led by Baruch Chorus Director Teresa Parker.

Immediately following Convocation, students take part in the Baruch Beginnings day of opening festivities including small group discussions of The Age of Miracles. The day ends with a barbecue and Block Party on 25th Street. Parents and families of incoming freshmen will attend a Parent Orientation and Reception.  We invite Baruch faculty and staff to meet and greet parents and families at the Reception scheduled from 6:30 PM until 8 PM in NVC 14-220.

I hope to welcome many of you back on August 27th.  Please help us to welcome our incoming class enthusiastically by joining the platform party on stage in Mason Hall. If you plan to join the platform party at Freshman Convocation or will attend the Reception for Parents and Families, please RSVP by logging onto:  Once on that site, you will be asked whether you will need a robe and, if so, you will be asked for size information.

Please note: Because of space constraints in Mason Hall, we are asking that faculty who plan to attend Convocation be robed and seated with the platform party so that the entire freshman class can be seated in Mason Hall. If you wish to attend Convocation but do not wish to be seated on stage, you will be directed to 4 North to view the Convocation via simulcast on the large screen.
