Dear Faculty and Staff:

Reminder to wear denim tomorrow, Wednesday, April 25, 2018, in solidarity for Denim Day to raise awareness about sexual assault, stop victim-blaming, and provide support for survivors of sexual assault.  Please see attached flyer for more details on the events organized by Baruch’s Sexual Harassment and Assault Prevention Committee (S.H.A.P.)

Why denim?

In 1998, the Italian Supreme Court overturned a rape conviction, in part, because the victim was wearing tight jeans:  "because the victim wore very, very tight jeans, she had to help him remove them...and by removing the was no longer rape but consensual sex.”  The next day, women in Italian parliament protested by coming to work in jeans.

Annual rally against sexual assault takes place tomorrow at noon at Foley Square.  Details:  Denim Day NYC
