Dear Baruch Faculty Colleagues,
Associate Provost Erec R. Koch will begin a new role as Dean of Humanities and the Arts at City College effective on Monday, November 28. Erec Koch has served Baruch with distinction since February 2014, with principal responsibility for Academic Administration, Research Administration, and Faculty Development. He will remain at Baruch for the next 7 weeks to complete several important projects.
Erec has been an extraordinary colleague, and our faculty have been the beneficiaries. Together with Associate Provost Dennis Slavin, they initiated the third year faculty seminar to prepare candidates for tenure for the dean’s review. He recruited Dominic Esposito as Director of Sponsored Programs and Research, and developed the faculty research seminar funding model. He initiated the annual recognition for faculty book authors, and a new competitive award to provide important support for faculty whose book length manuscripts are under review by publishers. Together with the able assistance of Maria Burgos and Abby Santana, Koch and I worked together with the PSC to correct past misinterpretations and insure that our faculty workload practices are consistent with our contract. He has facilitated our faculty task force groups that provided advice to faculty on reporting teaching, research and service accomplishments in their P&B binders, and currently facilitates a faculty committee making suggestions on best practices for partial semester paid parental leave assignments.
As you encounter Erec during the weeks prior to Thanksgiving, please wish him well, and if you have colleagues in the Humanities and Arts at City, please introduce them to Erec.
