From:  José Arias, Executive Administrative Coordinator & Assistant to the Vice President of Student Affairs

Good afternoon:

We received a report from a student regarding the sale/solicitation to sell tickets for what seems to be a bogus event. Last night someone claiming to be a student from BMCC tried selling tickets in a class for a paintball trip. (He said he was part of a club called “NGB,” but there is no such club at BMCC.) One of the clubs here at Baruch does put on a similar trip but would not go to classes in session to sell tickets. Public Safety was contacted about the incident and a report was made.

If any such incident occurs in your class, please contact Public Safety with a description and any pertinent and/or identifying information. In the past, students have been defrauded, buying what they thought were tickets to legitimate events. If a Baruch student is found to be selling bogus tickets, the matter will be brought to the attention of the Dean of Students office; if the seller is someone who should not be on campus (not Baruch or CUNY affiliated), s/he would be trespassing and might be arrested.

Please be in touch with any questions or additional information.  As the Spring 2017 semester is about to begin, we might receive more reports of these types of incidents.

All the best,

José Arias
