From:  Luke Waltzer, Director of Baruch’s Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL)

Dear Colleagues:

Please see the workshop announcement below from George Otte, CUNY’s University Director of Academic Technology. This workshop would be valuable especially to those who have had little experience teaching in online environments and those who have not used Blackboard extensively but plan to do so in the future.

I am happy to discuss in more detail the structure and expectations of the workshop with any interested faculty, and to help you determine if the workshop is right for you.

Best wishes,

Luke Waltzer

From:  George Otte, Associate  Dean of Academic  Affairs, The CUNY School of Professional  Studies

(Note: the following has been excerpted from Dean Otte’s message to CUNY’s Chief Academic Officers)

As the academic year begins, we are ready to accept registration for the Fall 2014 workshops preparing CUNY faculty to teach online or hybrid courses. These workshops are themselves completely online.

Starting immediately, we will begin accepting applications for the fall workshops of "Preparation for Teaching Online: A Foundational Workshop for CUNY Faculty," scheduled for 10/20-11/2 and 11/3-16; again, all workshop activities will be online.

Applicants will need supervisory sign-off indicating they will be scheduled to teach at least one online or hybrid course, with priority given to those scheduled to do so in Spring 2015.  That supervisory approval (by both the department/program head and the CAO) is especially important since the campuses are to pay each faculty member who successfully completes the workshop 10 hours at the non-teaching adjunct rate for their participation; this amount will be reimbursed to the college once the faculty member has taught six online or hybrid credits within the two semesters following the workshop. (As noted in earlier announcements, this is to ensure that there is follow-through -- actual delivery -- on the online or hybrid courses these workshops are intended to foster.)

The description of the workshop and the application form can be found at -- where you also find the full annual schedule of workshop dates.
