This email is being sent to all members of the Baruch faculty.
Dear Members of the Baruch Community:
Each year, a committee of faculty, students, and administrators selects a book for the entire Baruch community to read and discuss. This year’s selection is Brooklyn by Colm Toibin.
We are pleased to present you with a free copy of this “coming of age” novel about a young woman who immigrates to New York to study accounting at Brooklyn College. To request a free copy, contact Mark.Spergel@baruch.cuny.edu.
All entering freshman will be given a copy of the book at orientation this summer and asked to read it in its entirety in time for Convocation and the book discussion hour that follows. Brooklyn will be the subject of the keynote address by another Irish author, Belinda McKeon, at Freshman Convocation, scheduled for Thursday August 23rd. We especially encourage teaching faculty to include the book on their required reading lists for the fall semester.
The Library faculty and selection committee members have developed a website containing resources and a study guide to accompany the book that you can gain access to at: http://guides.newman.baruch.cuny.edu/brooklyn
We hope that you enjoy reading Brooklyn!
Best wishes,
The Freshman Text Selection Committee
