Go Green with Baruch!
We know you want to recycle and we are working hard to make it easy.
Dear Colleagues,
We are trying to help the Baruch community recycle. Without funding to purchase three bins for paper, bottles/cans and landfill trash for each classroom, we decided to follow the lead of New York City governmental offices. We have removed trashcans from classrooms, put up signs, labeled and placed recycling bins in communal areas and sent letters to the students and faculty alerting them to the new program.
With our new program in place, the vast majority of students, faculty and staff are taking the time to separate their trash and place it in the communal bins. Very few leave trash behind. We are working to place additional and larger receptacles in convenient areas. If you see an area that could use additional recycling and landfill bins, please let us know by contacting us at Sustainability@baruch.cuny.edu.
You will soon see custodial staff collecting recyclables and landfill trash using three-compartment carts. This will help to maintain your trash separation.
To see how your peers and students are doing their part check out this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCfWz8VVaWE

If Baruch effectively recycled half of all recyclable materials we currently send to the landfill, we would be removing the equivalent of 189 passenger cars from the roadway each year.
While recycling is great, limiting consumption is even better. Instead of buying hundreds of plastic bottles, use metal, glass or BPA-free refillable bottles. Aside from the environmental and health benefits, it will save you money.
Please stay involved. Recycling demonstrates your commitment to protecting the environment, yourself, and the people you love.
Thank you for your support. Let’s keep the momentum going!
Best wishes for a satisfying semester,
Recycling Subcommittee - The Baruch College Task Force on Sustainability
