The Provost’s office is pleased to announce the appointment of Heather Samples as the new Director of the Bernard L. Schwartz Communication Institute, after an international search. Ms. Samples has been the Assistant Director of Baruch’s Writing Center for the past two years; prior to that she developed curricula for the Writing Center, and did faculty development work at The Cooper Union. She taught for many years in the Core Curriculum at Columbia University, where she also received her MFA in Fiction. Her appointment is effective today, July 21.
Heather impressed the members of the search committee and others who participated in the hiring process with her ability to articulate both expertise and deeply held values. Her sense of vision, together with her proven record of achievement at the Writing Center, made clear that Heather will advance the Institute’s mission in partnership with its staff, and the faculty and students it serves.
We would like to thank Suzanne Epstein for her stewardship as the Institute’s Interim Director since last August. Her work has helped make the Institute the extraordinarily important resource it has become and will continue to be, and we wish her the very best in the coming years.
I believe we are entering a very positive new era for the BLSCI. I know that Heather is eager to collaborate with the Baruch community to support our students’ development into effective communicators in their academic and professional lives. Please join the members of the Provost's Office in welcoming her to this new role.
