Heritage Month Leadership Series

Join Student Life, the Black & Latino Studies Department, the History Department, and the Women’s & Gender Studies Program on two exciting trips related to celebrated Heritage Months. Engage with Baruch College Faculty and Student Affairs Educators as we bring historical experience to life.

 

I. Exploring the African Diaspora

All-day Trip to Baltimore, MD  |  Friday, February 20, 2015

$35 Attendance fee (includes transportation, museum entrance fees, and lunch)

 

Tour the first Black wax museum in the nation and other historical venues showcasing 6,000 years of Black history. Students will view over 140 wax figures that represent influential individuals from the past to the present. Professor Clarence Taylor of the Departments of History and Black and Latino Studies will provide historical context and engage participants in an active dialogue on the influence and impact of the African diaspora. This is a unique opportunity to expand your knowledge about Black culture and history that extends beyond the classroom. There are only 50 spots available! II. Celebrating Women’s Rights

All-day Trip to Seneca Falls, New York   |   Friday, March 13, 2015

$35 Attendance fee (includes transportation, museum entrance fees, and lunch)

 

Join us as we travel to Seneca Falls, NY to explore the birthplace of women’s rights and the suffrage movement.  This day trip will bring you to various historic sites including the Women’s Rights National Historic Park, Weslyan Chapel at Declaration Park, and The Elizabeth Cady Stanton House.  Celebrate the accomplishments of inspirational American women at the National Women’s Hall of Fame.  Explore the issue of women’s rights with discussion led by Professor Katherine Pence, chair of the History Department and Director for the Women’s & Gender Studies program. There are only 50 spots available! III. Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month Committee

The Student Life Heritage Month Leadership Series is part of an ongoing initiative to celebrate the rich multicultural heritage of the Baruch College community. 

 

The office of Student Life is looking for interested faculty and staff to participate in the planning of the upcoming Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month (April 2014). Please consider joining the conversation with Baruch students, faculty, and staff on the creation and development of programs centered around celebrating, understanding, and commemorating the rich, cultural history and diversity that is Baruch College.

The committee will begin to meet in the coming weeks. Meetings are held in the Office of Student Life located in NVC 2-210.  If interested please contact Rebecca Grandison (Rebecca.grandison@baruch.cuny.edu), Assistant Director of Student Activities for additional details
