Dear Colleagues,

I’d like to inform you of a great opportunity for undergraduate students to present their original research at a professional international conference, the International Conference of Undergraduate Research (ICUR). Please pass this information along to your students. If you have students who have written research papers or who are writing senior theses, please encourage them to participate in ICUR, which will take place September 27-28, 2016. Graduating seniors may return in September to present work completed while an undergraduate.  

This conference, organized by the University of Warwick in the UK and Monash University in Australia, links students on panels at 11 campuses on 5 continents via cutting-edge teleconferencing. Baruch students give a 15-20-minute presentation on their research alongside students in other countries and then participate in a lively question and answer session with students in England and elsewhere, all from the comfort of a Baruch conference room! This is great professional experience for undergrads, because it exposes them to a low-stakes, but professional academic conference, in which they can hone their oral skills, get feedback on their work, and hear what kind of interdisciplinary scholarship students pursue at other universities. Students can then put this conference on their resumes. This will be the third annual conference in which Baruch has participated, and students in the past two years have found the experience to be exciting and rewarding. Baruch is lucky to be one of four U.S. colleges participating, along with the University of Washington, the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, and the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. Other global participants are Nanyang Technological University, Kyushu University, Singapore Management University, Monash University Malaysia, and Monash University South Africa. See for more information.

To participate:  Students in all fields are eligible.  Students must submit a 250-word abstract and title of their research. They can use or enhance their Creative Inquiry Day proposals if they are participating in that event.

The conference will be held September 27-28, 2016 at Baruch College.  Students are encouraged to support each other by attending more than one panel. Thesis advisors are strongly encouraged to come and see their students present. This conference is generously funded by the Office of the Provost, the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences, the Zicklin School of Business, and the School of Public Affairs at Baruch College.
