The Baruch Climate Change Seminar Speaker Series presents:

The State of U.S. Climate Change Adaptation

Jamaica Bay Skyline (by Jeffrey Bary under CC attribution)

featuring Adam Parris, Director, Jamaica Bay Science and Resilience Institute

February 26th at 12:30 p.m.

Background

Adaptation refers to action to prepare for and adjust to new conditions, thereby reducing harm or taking advantage of new opportunities. Climate change Adaptation planning is occurring in the public and private sectors and at all levels of government but few measures have been implemented.

About the Program

Mr. Parris will describe the Adaptation chapter of the National Climate Assessment and the development of the executive order that requires all federal agencies to develop Adaptation plans. He will reconcile these efforts with Adaptation that's happening on the ground through Regional Integrated Sciences and Assessments (RISA) at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Lastly, he'll discuss the US role in Adaptation science and research through the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
