Applications are now being accepted for the January 2017 section of “Preparation for Teaching Online: A Foundational Workshop for CUNY Faculty.” The CUNY School of Professional Studies offers this workshop from January 9-22 and it is conducted fully online.
This workshop would be especially valuable to those who have not taught online/hybrid courses and those who have not used Blackboard extensively but plan to do so in the future.
Below you’ll find an excerpt from the announcement from George Otte, CUNY’s University Director of Academic Technology. Per that announcement, you are eligible to receive payment for 10 hours at the non-teaching adjunct rate should you successfully complete the workshop. Baruch will be reimbursed for this expense only after you teach six online or hybrid credits within the two semesters following the workshop (i.e., by the end of Fall 2017). For that reason, we ask you to promise to teach classes employing one of those modes of instruction when you apply for the workshop.
Please reach out to me should you have any questions about the workshops and/or would like assistance in determining if this aligns with your needs.

Starting today, we are accepting applications for January 9-22 offerings of "Preparation for Teaching Online: A Foundational Workshop for CUNY Faculty." These workshops (there will be several sections) are completely online.
Applicants will need supervisory sign-off indicating that they will be scheduled to teach at least one online or hybrid course in the term(s) ahead, That supervisory approval (by both the department/program head and the CAO) is especially important since the colleges are to pay each faculty member who successfully completes the workshop 10 hours at the NTA (non-teaching adjunct) rate for their participation. This amount will be reimbursed to the college once the faculty member has taught six online or hybrid credits within the two semesters following the workshop. (As noted in earlier announcements, this is to ensure that there is follow-through -- actual delivery -- on the online or hybrid courses these workshops are intended to foster.)
The description of the workshops and the application form can be found at http://cunyonline.commons.gc.cuny.edu/ -- where you also find the full annual schedule of workshops at the bottom of the page, just above the link to register for the workshops.
