Academic Assessment Workshop:

Making a Difference in Student Learning

Friday October 24, 9am-4:30pm

135 E. 22nd Street, Room 301

From:  Marjorie L. Dorimé-Williams, Director of Academic Assessment

Though assessment is an increasingly important part of higher education, it is often misunderstood and implemented unsystematically. To assist faculty and staff with the process of assessment, the Office of Academic Assessment is hosting a one-day workshop for those who are involved with assessment throughout the College. This workshop is for those who are new to assessment and those who may have had experience conducting assessments in the past. The interactive sessions will address questions about the assessment process overall, data collection and reporting, linking curriculum to assessment results, and introduce best practices.

Upon completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify key elements of a functional assessment process.
  • Understand methods and measures to assess program educational objectives and student outcomes.
  • Develop scoring rubrics to assist in evaluating abstract learning outcomes.
  • Understand the pros and cons of various data collection methods.
  • Design a sustainable assessment process
  • Identify potential strategies for program improvement

Faculty and staff developing, implementing, or revising assessments of student learning are invited to this workshop. Department assessment representatives are encouraged to attend this event.

See the attached schedule.

Breakfast, lunch, and light refreshments will be served.
