Dr. Marjorie Dorimé-Williams joined Baruch College as our first Director of Academic Assessment in September 2013. Since then, she has worked skillfully to help all of us understand and utilize the processes and tools of academic assessment as recognized and increasingly valued by our accrediting bodies. She has led workshops and worked with committees and individuals to help members of the faculty and staff make our goals more explicit—especially in the area of student learning--and to design ways to evaluate whether we are achieving those goals. She contributed significantly to the college’s Periodic Review Report last spring and has been a mainstay of curriculum and assessment committees since she arrived. Today is Marjorie’s last day at Baruch. She has accepted a position directing assessment at Borough of Manhattan Community College, where she will begin after a well-deserved week off!
As we launch a search for Marjorie’s successor, the work of assessment goes on, led by those with assessment responsibilities in each of the Schools. Anyone with ongoing work with the College’s Office of Academic Assessment may continue that work through communication with Joseph Bendana (Joseph.Bendana@baruch.cuny.edu) in the College’s office, or within their School, or by contacting me directly.
I know that we all wish Marjorie well and hope that she will stay in touch—an effort that will be aided by the fact that her husband Michael Steven Williams remains a member of the faculty of Baruch’s School of Public Affairs.
