From:  Eric Krebs, Department of Fine and Performing Arts

Dear Baruch College Colleague,

The week of RENT is upon us. It will play in Mason Hall Tuesday-Saturday at 7:30, May 3-7.  More than 50 Baruch undergrads are now involved in one way or another as actors, musicians, technicians, marketers, etc.

As the first musical to be done by our Department of Fine and Performing Arts in many years, I would like to urge you to attend one of the five performances to experience one of the hidden treasures of our college that not many people know about...the theater program.

Tickets are $15.00 (Baruch students $10.00), and may be purchased at the box office on the ground level of the NVC or at the door before each performance. (Bring your own young people? They should love it.)

I had the thrill of the semester last evening as I watched a runthrough on the wonderful Mason Hall stage, WOW!  We have some great performers among our students!  And what a lovely cast, representing the enormous diversity of Baruch College. Their commitment has been fabulous, spending most of the spring break working in the theater.

I have recently read  about theater production  in the Baruch archives. It seems that the student group “Theatron” regularly produced in Mason Hall (before it was Mason Hall) starting in 1929. Just thought you might like to know. Hopefully with your support, we can re-kindle that tradition in a terrific way.
