Songhua Xu (New Jersey Institute of Technology)

Computational Cancer Informatics through Big Data Analytics

Thursday, December 3rd, 2:30-4:00pm, NVC 14-290

From: Professor Radhika Jain, Computer Information Systems

Abstract: In this talk, the speaker will share a few selected projects led by himself in computational cancer informatics research. Despite the diverse project focuses and application areas, the common research approach is through big data analytics and computational intelligence. Via the talk, the speaker hopes to inspire and motivate researchers and students in the broader data intelligence community to join the societally vital and mission-critical effort of improving human health conditions and quality of life through cutting-edge research in computational intelligence and big-data driven health informatics.

Bio: Dr. Songhua Xu is an Assistant Professor at Department of Information Systems, College of Computing Sciences, New Jersey Institute of Technology. His primary research concentrates on constructing intelligent systems and web service infrastructure for information retrieval, mining and decision making the the biomedical domain. He is the PI (Tourassi, Co-PI) of the ongoing NCI R01 project "A Cyber-Informatics Approach to Studying Migration and Environmental Cancer Risk", the PI of the project "Advanced Algorithms and User Interfaces for Data Mining of Biomedical Images and literature" funded by Department of Energy, and the co-I in the "Knowledge Discovery Infrastructure" project for Center of Medicare and medicaid Services (CMS). He is also exploring research opportunities on big-data (especially social media) empowered marketing insight discovery and stock price prediction.

There are time slots available to meet with Dr. Xu.
