From:  Allison Lehr Samuels, Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning

Dear Colleagues:

Applications are now being accepted for the spring and summer workshops “Preparation for Teaching Online: A Foundational Workshop for CUNY Faculty”. This fully online workshop conducted by the CUNY School of Professional Studies is offered three times:

April 23 - May 6

June 11-24

July 16-29

Below you’ll find the announcement from George Otte, CUNY’s University Director of Academic Technology. This workshop would be especially valuable to those who have not taught online/hybrid courses and those who have not used Blackboard extensively but plan to do so in the future.

You are eligible to receive payment for 10 hours at the non-teaching adjunct rate should you successfully complete the workshop. As noted below, we expect that you will teach at least six online or hybrid credits within the two semesters following the workshop (i.e., by the end of Spring 2019). Please note, that the timing of this payment differs from what is in George Otte's email below (which relates to reimbursement to the college, not to individual members of the faculty).

Please reach out to me should you have any questions about the workshops and/or would like assistance in determining if this aligns with your needs.

Best,

Allison Lehr Samuels

Paid Faculty Development Opportunity ….

Colleagues:

I want you to know that we have opened registration for the spring and summer workshops preparing CUNY faculty to teach online or hybrid courses.  (The spring workshops, starting in late April, will give priority to those faculty slated to teach such courses in the Summer sessions. The summer workshops, held in June and July, will give priority to those preparing to teach in the Fall.)

Your faculty can now apply for “Preparation for Teaching Online: A Foundational Workshop for CUNY Faculty, offered April 23 - May 6, June 11-24, and July 16-29, 2018.  These workshops (there will be several sections in each time frame) are completely online.

Applicants will need supervisory sign-off indicating they are scheduled to teach at least one online or hybrid course in the term(s) ahead. That supervisory approval (by both the department/program head and the CAO) is especially important since the colleges are to pay each faculty member who successfully completes the workshop 10 hours at the NTA (non-teaching adjunct) rate for their participation. This amount will be reimbursed to the college once the faculty member has taught six online or hybrid credits within the two semesters following the workshop.

The description of the workshops and the application form can be found at http://cunyonline.commons.gc.cuny.edu/ -- where you also find the annual schedule of workshops at the bottom of the page, just above the link to register for the workshops.
