To Baruch College Faculty:
The special funds that the CUNY senior colleges had been receiving to support the libraries’ textbook loan service are no longer available.
Newman Library does not have funds in its operating budget to purchase copies of textbooks to place on reserve. If you have a personal copy of the textbook for your course that you would like to place on reserve, please bring it to the library’s circulation desk. Based on our analysis of textbook adoptions by Baruch faculty for fall 2015 so far, we may be able to maintain the loan service for at least one semester by re-using editions of textbooks that were on reserve last year.
We encourage instructors to use open educational resources, as well as digital materials (e-books, journals, and multimedia) that the library already licenses. If you need assistance with identifying these resources, please contact the library faculty member who serves as liaison to your department: http://www.baruch.cuny.edu/library/faculty/department_liaisons.htm.
Thank you for your help with this transition.
Arthur Downing, Vice President for Information Services & Dean of the Library
