This email is being sent all members of the Baruch Faculty

From:  Heather Samples & DJ Dolack, Acting Co-Directors, Baruch College Writing Center

 Dear Members of the Faculty:

As classes begin, we wanted to introduce ourselves as Acting Co-directors while updating you on our programming this Spring. With Keri Bertino on parental leave, both of us look forward to meeting and working with you; our door is of course open.

  Classroom Visits

We will again offer 15-minute classroom visits, intended to familiarize your students with the Writing Center's services and programs. Please visit <http://www.baruch.cuny.edu/writingcenter/faculty.html> to download a classroom visit request form, and email it to writingcenter@baruch.cuny.edu or drop it off at NVC 8-185.

  Workshops

The Writing Center's workshops continue to grow, with more student participants and faculty support than ever before. We hope you will encourage students to join us. This semester we will offer 12 workshops in four skill clusters: Reading and Interpretation, Structuring an Argument, Writing with Research, and Revising and Process. Workshops take place on Mondays from 3-4pm and on Tuesdays and Fridays from 1-2pm in the Feit Seminar room (or, in the case of the Analyzing Images workshop, in the Mishkin Gallery). Please visit <http://www.baruch.cuny.edu/writingcenter/students_workshops.html> for a complete schedule and registration information.

All lesson plans, handouts and readings developed by the Writing Center for this extensive curriculum are available for your classroom use. Please visit <http://www.baruch.cuny.edu/writingcenter/WorkshopMaterials.htm> to view and download materials. To further discuss how these resources can support your teaching, contact Heather Samples.

  i Magazine

We remain committed to publishing outstanding student writing in our online journal, i Magazine. Please help us celebrate excellence and develop this archive by emailing your students' best work to imagazine@baruch.cuny.edu. More information is available at <http://blsciblogs.baruch.cuny.edu/imagazine/submit/>. We're still welcoming nominations from Fall 2011.

  Staying in Touch

The Writing Center's Facebook page continues to help students access our services. Please "like" Baruch College Writing Center on Facebook, and encourage your students to do so, to show your support for the Center, and to stay abreast of our latest offerings and news.

Finally, a reminder that the Writing Center has an average of 155 appointments available per week for a campus of nearly 17,000 students. Please understand that we may not be able to accommodate every student in your class if you require each student to visit the Writing Center as part of an assignment, and that we are unable to make special accommodations for such requirements. For more information, please see <http://www.baruch.cuny.edu/writingcenter/faculty.html> or be in touch.

Warm wishes for a productive semester,
Heather and DJ
