This email is being sent to all members of the Baruch College faculty.

As promised earlier this week, the provost’s office is sponsoring efforts to help members of the faculty find online methods of making up for time lost to last week’s hurricane—online alternatives or supplements to the scheduled make-up classes—all in support of helping students learn material they otherwise are in danger of missing. We’ve scheduled three sessions. They will be led by members of the faculty with experience in teaching online/hybrid courses, with support from members of the BCTC staff and the Schwartz Institute. The sessions will include presentations and one-on-one assistance. They are scheduled for three hours, but you can attend for any length of time that works for you.

  • Monday, November 12: 3-6pm, Newman Library Building, Room 130 (next to the ID Center)
  • Tuesday, November 13: 12:30-4pm, Newman Library Building, Room 135 (next to the ID Center)
  • Thursday, November 15: 5-8pm, NVC 7-160

Two websites relevant to this effort:

  • "Making Up for Hurricane Sandy" (, a new site created to facilitate an exchange of ideas among Baruch College faculty for how to use technology to make up for instructional time lost in the wake of last week's storm. It is curated by the staff of Bernard L. Schwartz Communication Institute, and faculty members can both draw upon and contribute assignment, project, and workshop ideas from across the disciplines. The site will also include technical tips for configuring teaching spaces on Blogs@Baruch, and will present information about workshops and links to other resources available to the Baruch College community for teaching and learning with technology over the remainder of the semester. Your feedback and participation in this platform is welcome and encouraged.
