Members of the Baruch College Faculty & Staff
You are invited to participate in the academic procession at Baruch College’s Forty-second Commencement
Exercises. Once again, this year we have requested the MSG Arena to hold one combined commencement
ceremony for both undergraduates and graduates at 11:00 a.m. Our use of the Arena depends upon whether
the New York Knicks or the New York Rangers are in their respective playoffs and whether there is any major
concert event scheduled. That will not be determined until some time later this Spring. As an alternative, we
are planning two commencement ceremonies in the Madison Square Garden Theater, with undergraduates
and graduates at both ceremonies, allowing us to maximize the total seating of the theater and make as many
tickets available to the guests of our students. In the latter scenario, the morning ceremony will begin at 11:00
a.m. and the afternoon ceremony will begin at 3:30 pm.
Additionally, each year we invite interested faculty and staff to participate as graduation marshals at the
commencement exercises. Your participation is crucial. The event cannot take place without the support of
Baruch’s faculty and staff. These ceremonies involve over thirteen thousand degree candidates, faculty, staff
and guests. Volunteers are needed to help with audience and graduate seating, crowd control, and the robing
of faculty and students. You can volunteer your assistance for one or, if needed, both ceremonies.
What you might not know is how great it feels to be part of such a day. At commencement, you get to see the
product of your efforts–the glowing faces of graduates, proud parents and loved ones who are celebrating a
moment of great accomplishment. It is our accomplishment as well. Because we played a role in getting our
students to this point, we can all share in this great moment.
By the way, it is not all work; it’s a lot of fun! You will be provided with a light breakfast. Whether you are participating
in the morning or the afternoon ceremony you will receive a great lunch with wine and soft drinks.
Most importantly, you get to schmooze and catch up with your colleagues!
To confirm your attendance at commencement, to volunteer to serve as a marshal and to order your
academic regalia, please complete the enclosed form and return it to the Office of Student Life no later
than Wednesday, March 28 or simply log on to our website to complete the form online below before March
28.

Academic Regalia Pick-Up. To avoid last minute problems and confusion at MSG, you should pick-up
rented garments in the Newman Vertical Campus Multipurpose Room (VC1-107) on Tuesday, May 22 and
Wednesday, May 23 between Noon and 7:00 p.m. Garments not picked up by Friday, May 25 at noon will
be available in the faculty robing area, on the mezzanine level at Madison Square Garden on Commencement
day, Wednesday, May 30. If there are two ceremonies and you are attending the morning ceremony only,
please return your cap & gown at the conclusion of that ceremony prior to lunch at Madison Square Garden.
If you will be participating in both ceremonies, you must keep your academic regalia with you during lunch
and return it at the conclusion of the afternoon ceremony. All garments must be returned at the conclusion of
the ceremonies at Madison Square Garden. Please do not return academic regalia back at the college.
We look forward to your participation in Baruch College’s forty-second commencement exercises.
Sincerely,
Carl E. Aylman
