Call for Nominations for the Presidential Excellence Awards
December 6, 2021
From: Linda Essig, Provost
The Presidential Excellence Awards Committees seek nominations for the Presidential Excellence Awards for Distinguished Scholarship, Distinguished Teaching, and Distinguished Service. All full-time faculty members who are in their fourth year or beyond at Baruch, with the exception of Distinguished Professors and Distinguished Lecturers, are eligible for these awards. Adjunct members of the faculty who have taught for a minimum of six semesters at Baruch (i.e., in their seventh semester or beyond) are eligible for the Distinguished Teaching Award (Adjunct Faculty). Faculty who have received Presidential Awards are eligible for another award in the same category only after ten years have passed.
Letters of nomination are welcome from any source within the Baruch community, including students, chairpersons, colleagues, staff members, deans, and departmental executive committees. Self-nominations will not be accepted.
For the scholarship award, the letters of nomination should indicate the significance of the candidate’s scholarship or creative activity to her or his field.
For the teaching award, the nomination should describe the outstanding achievements in instruction. In keeping with the college’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan, the Awards Committee will be looking for evidence of both innovation and effectiveness in the in-person or virtual classroom.
For the service award, the nomination should include a description of the outstanding service. Consistent with our Strategic Plan, service in support of diversity, inclusion, and cultural competency will receive special emphasis by the Awards Committee.
Nominees will be contacted for the supporting materials needed by the Awards Committees. The three Awards Committees will be headed by the three deans and also include previous winners.
To nominate someone, click on Presidential Excellence Awards Nomination Form or email your nominations to Vanessa.Cano@baruch.cuny.edu.
The deadline for nominations is Thursday, February 17, 2022. Nominations will not be accepted after this date.
Established and maintained by grants from the Baruch College Fund, the Presidential Excellence Awards are given to faculty members to stimulate and reward outstanding achievement and to enhance the College as a center of excellence. The awards are made by the President, acting on the recommendation of the Awards Committees. The recipient receives an honorarium and a certificate, and the names of all recipients are inscribed on plaques that are prominently displayed on the 14th floor of the Newman Vertical Campus.
The Distinguished Scholarship Award recognizes the outstanding and distinctive achievements of fulltime faculty in written scholarship as well as creative activity during the preceding three years. Written Scholarship encompasses, but is not limited to, publication of books, monographs, articles, and the like published in the past three years; Creative Activity encompasses, but is not limited to, distinguished achievement in the fine or performing arts such as exhibitions, performances, media production, creative or journalistic writing, and the like during the past three years.
The Distinguished Teaching Award (full-time faculty) and The Distinguished Teaching Award (adjunct faculty) recognize members of the full-time and adjunct faculties whose outstanding pedagogical ability, commitment to teaching, and achievements in teaching are making a positive impact on the quality of instruction and student life at the College. Nominations should include evidence of the effectiveness and/or innovative practices of the instructor.
The Distinguished Service Award recognizes full-time faculty whose service, distinct from teaching and scholarship, is improving the quality of the Baruch community through leadership of College activities; in developing resources for the College; extraordinary or unique contributions to shared governance; leadership in program development and enhancement; and/or in connecting the College to relevant external communities. Consistent with our Strategic Plan, focus on activities that support of diversity, inclusion, and cultural competency will be given enhanced consideration.
Submissions of materials for all three award categories will be accepted in electronic form only.
