No finals outside the final exam period, December 14-20
December 6, 2019
This reminder is being sent from the Office of the Provost & Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
Final exams may not take place outside the final exam period, Sunday, December 14 – Friday, December 20.
As mentioned every semester, although some students (and some instructors) might prefer to complete the final before the exam period begins, we may not do this because:
(1) The New York State Education Department specifies the minimum number of contact hours per credit; we meet the minimum by including the final exam period; therefore, no final exams may be administered during regularly scheduled classes, including during the last sessions of the semester;
(2) Students deserve the number of classroom hours they have paid for; and
(3) Students should not have to study for a final that will take place on days that they are still attending and doing assignments for other classes. Do not ask your students to take the exam before the final exam period.
Please note that a similar message has (or soon will be) sent to all students.
