Provost’s Newsletter: News and Updates from the Division of Academic Affairs for April 5, 2023
April 5, 2023
Dear Baruch Community:
As we approach Spring Recess, the Division of Academic Affairs has a bit less news than usual to share this week, but the newsletter below still includes some important updates. I anticipate we will be back more robustly with our next issue on April 19. Between now and then, I will be attending the American Council on Education Annual Meeting to learn from colleagues across the country about the latest in higher education policy; enrollment trends; best practices for supporting student, faculty, and staff success; and more. I look forward to sharing some key conference takeaways in the next issue.
Many members of our community celebrate cultural or religious holidays at this time of year. Others may not have a religious celebration but enjoy spending time with family when public schools may be closed. However you may acknowledge this time of year, I wish you peace, joy, and generosity.
Sincerely,
Dr. Linda Essig
Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs

Faculty Affairs
Faculty Profile Pages Open for Internal Review
Work on the faculty profile pages populated with data from Interfolio, CUNYfirst, and other systems continues as planned. Faculty are encouraged to verify the content of their pages and make the necessary adjustments in Interfolio before these pages become publicly available. Additionally, faculty will be able to hide some tabs from the public display by filling out a specific request form. Any faculty interested in previewing their own page should contact Interim Associate Provost Raquel Fich.
Student Success
2023 Locke Prizes
Baruch undergraduates are invited to submit their work for the Susan Locke Prizes in Environmental Sustainability and Climate Change. The prizes are funded by a generous gift from Professor Emerita Susan Locke (Psychology) with the intention to encourage Baruch students to engage in scholarly activities that address threats to the natural world and the climate change crisis.
Prizes will be awarded in two categories: research and art. Students may submit papers or artistic work relating to environmental sustainability, climate change, or wildlife conservation. Submissions are welcome from any discipline, and we particularly encourage interdisciplinary work where connections beyond the student’s own discipline can be seen clearly in the submission. Research submitted may be an honors thesis or independent study project or an assignment submitted in fulfillment of a relevant course. The submission deadline is Tuesday, May 16.
Please visit the Locke Prizes webpage to learn more and reach out to Locke Program Director Emily Johnson with any questions.
Teaching and Learning
Akademos Textbook Adoption Scholarships for Summer 2023
For the Summer 2023 term, Akademos will be awarding additional textbook scholarships for students at each CUNY college where the course material adoption rate is at or above 80% completion by Friday, Apr. 21, and if adoptions are complete, and cannot be marked as “no books required” unless they truly will not have course materials required in the course. Additionally, collecting course material adoptions early helps Akademos’s Supply Chain & Logistics Team source physical and print versions of texts prior to the start of the term. Let’s take advantage of this excellent opportunity to help our students save money on their course materials!

At this kickoff event, faculty with research and grant activity related to the theme of this cluster will have an opportunity to meet each other and share their research interests.
