Spring 2020 General Faculty: Committee Membership Elections – Finalizing the Nominee Ballot

May 18, 2020

From:  Professor Yochi Cohen-Charash (Psychology), Chair, Committee on Committees

Dear Baruch College Faculty,

Since the general faculty meeting was canceled this spring, we will hold our elections for the general college committees (2020-2022) electronically.

We will conduct the elections in two phases:

  1. The nomination phase will take place starting now and until Friday, May 22, at noon.
  2. The election stage will take place between Friday, May 22, at 3 PM and Wednesday, May 27, at midnight.

We will publish the results of the elections on Friday, May 29, by the end of the business day. In case not all committees are staffed, we will need to repeat the process during the fall semester.

Below is the explanation of the process.

Phase 1 – nominations and finalizing the ballot

Attached to this email, you will find a document with the current nominations. As you will see, we miss nominees for several committees. These vacancies are highlighted in yellow. Please email yochi.cohen-charash@baruch.cuny.edu if you would be interested in serving in any of these vacancies. If you are nominating someone else, please get the approval of the nominee before nominating them. The nominee or the self-nominated individual, who must by of full-time faculty rank or faculty status, should consult the Baruch College General Faculty Bylaws, Article VI, which provides a detailed explanation of the responsibilities of an elected member to each of the faculty committees.

This stage is in lieu of nominating faculty from the floor during our General Faculty Meeting. We will close the ballot on Friday, May 22, at noon.

Phase 2 – the actual elections

We will conduct the actual elections via Qualtrics between Friday, May 22, at 3 PM and Wednesday, May 27, at midnight. At this stage, we will combine the faculty’s vote that we usually conduct during the general faculty meeting once the nomination process is over, and the vote for the committees in which we have more nominees than vacancies. Currently, these are the Joint Committee on Research and the Secretary of the General Faculty’s position, but this might change following the nomination stage.

We will send a separate email and a link to the election site on Friday, May 22.

Thank you for participating in this process.

Keep safe and healthy,

Professor Yochi Cohen-Charash (Psychology)
Chair, Committee on Committees
