The Passing of Dalchand Anil Rampaul (Neil), Chief College Laboratory Technician, Natural Sciences—Saturday, September 7, 2019
December 5, 2019
It is with great sadness and feeling of deep loss that we report the premature death Mr. Dalchand (Neil Rampaul), Chief College Laboratory Technician and valued colleague in Natural Sciences.
Neil’s long association with the College dates to his undergraduate years; he earned the BA degree in Biology from Baruch College in June 1979. He worked as an Adjunct College Laboratory Technician in 1978 and was hired full-time in 1980. Neil was promoted to the rank of Chief College Laboratory Technician of Natural Sciences in fall 1994.
Letters of support for promotion from many faculty members describe the amazing breadth of his work. He was responsible for preparing laboratory classes at all levels of Biology and for Environmental Studies. He was expert at repairing equipment. He handled all aspects of purchasing supplies and equipment for the four areas of the department. He was a partner to faculty members in testing new experiments and making them work within the time-span of a laboratory class and within the constraints of Baruch’s facilities. He had excellent rapport with Administrative departments and worked closely Purchasing and Accounts Payable.
Student and faculty alike will always remember Neil for his dedication, diligence and good humor. Even when two technicians’ positions were lost, Neil accomplished everything with only the help of student aides and adjunct assistance.
For Neil, dedication to and a love of his chosen career were key; students, faculty and friends alike will miss him dearly.
