Update About the Division of Continuing and Professional Studies at Baruch
October 6, 2021
Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,
The Division of Continuing and Professional Studies (CAPS) has endured significant fiscal issues and enrollment declines for several years, even prior to the pandemic. We carefully examined five years of enrollment and financial data, considered industry trends for the future, and ultimately determined that the division is not sustainable.
Regrettably, it was decided that CAPS will be discontinued effective December 30, 2021. Ongoing programs and certificates are being transferred into the academic schools along with their associated staff so that the students in these programs can complete their courses of study. Other CAPS staff will be reassigned to areas of high need across the College. I appreciate our CAPS colleagues not only for their talents and abilities but also for their flexibility during this process.
As part of this reorganization, Ann Clarkson, Associate Dean and CAPS Director, who has ably led the division since 2005, will be wrapping up her tenure at Baruch. Her last day on campus will be Friday, October 8. Please join me in thanking Ann for her service to Baruch.
While challenging, evaluations and decisions such as these are part of moving the College forward and being fiscally responsive to our current and future financial priorities. I appreciate your understanding and assure you that decisions such as this are made with careful consideration and consultation.
Sincerely,
Linda Essig
Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
