Update on the Search for a New Zicklin Dean

July 23, 2013

To the Baruch College Community:

As one of my first functions as Baruch’s new Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, I’m happy to be starting the search process for the new Willem Kooyker ’71 Dean of the Zicklin School of Business. We have retained the services of the Isaacson, Miller search firm, a recognized leader in higher education recruitment; this week we are building the position profile and mapping out the recruitment plan that will introduce top-notch candidates to the position.

While the search will launch officially with the start of the fall semester, we are working now to be ready for that public phase of the process. We are lucky to have committed Baruch colleagues ready and willing to serve on the search committee, which was formed after appropriate consultation with the Faculty Senate and Zicklin executive committees. Please join me in thanking them in advance for their service to this process.

Dean Jeffrey Peck – Chair
Lauren Block – Lippert Professor of Marketing
Paquita Davis-Friday – Associate Professor, Accountancy; Executive Director of Graduate Programs for Zicklin
Jim Gatheral – Presidential Professor of Mathematics/Financial Engineering
Mark Gibbel – Vice President
Michael Goodman – Professor of Communication Studies
Armen Hovakimian – Professor of Economics and Finance
Joanne M. Hvala – Baruch College Fund Trustee
Ted Joyce – Professor of Economics
Sanders Korenman – Professor, Public Affairs
Marios Koufaris – Associate Professor, Computer Information Systems
Christina Latouf – Vice President
Donald Vredenburgh – Professor of Management
Alexandra Chupanovskaya – Student Representative

With the naming of the deanship after alumnus Willem Kooyker (’71) and the endowment that he made, we are comfortable that Baruch’s already-strong credentials and appeal will be further bolstered. The academic reputation of the College and its scholars, our location, and the make-up of our student body are now rounded out by the endowment that will support the dean and her/his initiatives across the School. We expect this to be a competitive search.

Of course, we are able to undertake the process with urgency, but without being rushed, thanks to the unwavering commitment of Interim Dean Myung-Soo Lee, who has agreed to stay in the role until the new dean has been identified. Myung-Soo’s work since taking the position in July 2012, has been nothing short of inspiring. Please join me in thanking him for not only his prior efforts, but also those still to come.

We look forward to keeping you updated on the ZSB dean search as it gains momentum.

David P. Christy
Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
