Community Engaged Learning

Community engaged learning (CEL) at Baruch combines real-world problem solving with the College’s strategic goals and student success objectives. It also promises to make New York City (NYC) a better place for Baruch students to connect with their communities while making the city a better place for alumni and faculty to work, create, and contribute to the public good.

At Baruch, CEL consists of:

1) partnerships with local stakeholders

2) priorities that are primarily defined by those partners and stakeholders

3) reciprocity (students, faculty, and partners all benefit from community engaged learning)

4) intellectual reflection about real-world problem-solving activity that is guided by faculty mentors and connected to student development.

Community engaged learning builds student and faculty capacity through new and existing relationships with NYC partners in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors.

Community Engaged Learning Courses (Undergraduate and Graduate)

The following academic courses offer undergraduate and graduate students with opportunities to get real-world experience outside their classrooms, by working with organizations that address pressing needs in and around New York City. By participating in community engaged learning, students transform theoretical knowledge into practical knowledge, develop cultural competence, empathy, and metacognitive processes while building networks and diversifying and strengthening their resumes.
