Instructional/Information Technology in CUNY: Future Present
The City University of New York will hold its 6th annual all-day conference devoted to instructional and information technology the last Friday in November 2007. The conference will offer an overview of the University’s key IT initiatives, an opportunity to explore how technology is changing instruction, research, and administration, and an occasion to hear from CUNY’s faculty and IT leaders as well as to meet with vendors.
The concurrent sessions will provide a rich array of presentations, encompassing a broad range of topics of interest to CUNY faculty, technology staff, and college administrators, giving attendees a greater sense of the educational and administrative opportunities that IT makes possible and the roles faculty, students, and staff have in the ever-changing landscape of technology use.
For this year’s conference we are especially interested in the following points of focus:
1. Proven Practices: How have we already made the future present in our instructional and administrative practices? What innovations deserve to be extended and duplicated?
2. Systemizations: How can we make (or are we making) the future more present across our campuses and organizations? Are we moving beyond “random acts of innovation” to more orchestrated, organized steps forward in teaching and administration?
3. Disseminations: What are we doing in the way of training and mentoring? How are we making the future present to colleagues, introducing them to new techniques and technologies, new strategies and directions?
4. Horizon Events: What changes are headed our way that we need to be aware of — especially as we prepare a new master plan? How do we distill out the merely trendy trends from the consequential changes we need to learn to live with, the ones that will make our future present?
Proposals should be between a paragraph and a page in length, and should include a title as well as the name and campus affiliation of each presenter. (Proposals may be made for group as well as individual presentations.) Submit a proposal using the form at
http://www.dln.cuny.edu/it/proposals.html
Proposals are due by 9/14/07. Acceptances will be announced by the end of that month.
