Ethics Week 2025

This page last updated on: February 14, 2025

This year, Ethics Week at Baruch will take place March 10-16. An annual event since 2004, Ethics Week evolved from curricula in our three Schools that include emphases on ethical reasoning and/or decision-making. Generously supported by the Charles Dreifus Ethics-Across-the-Curriculum Initiative, the week typically features these components:

  • classroom discussions led by instructors on issues related to their courses or disciplines;
  • speakers invited to address classes;
  • public workshops or presentations by invited guests;  and
  • announcement of the student and faculty winners of the annual Abraham J. Briloff Prizes in Ethics.

Please consider organizing some of your class time during Ethics Week this spring around ethical issues as they relate to your subject or discipline—emphasis that falls naturally within our academic mission. We invite you to invite distinguished guests to speak that week—in your classes or in an event open to all. Modest stipends for speakers are available. Please contact Associate Provost Kathleen Gray <Kathleen.Gray@baruch.cuny.edu> as soon as possible if you are interested in inviting someone.

MONDAY, MARCH 10

The winners of the 2024 Briloff Prize in Ethics will be announced.

TUESDAY, MARCH 11

Faux Feminism: Why We Fall for White Feminism and How We Can Stop
1:00 pm – 2:00 pm
Newman Vertical Campus, room 14-285
This talk, given by Serene J. Khader (Jay Newman Chair in Philosophy of Culture, Brooklyn College and Professor of Philosophy and Women’s and Gender Studies at CUNY Graduate Center), argues that white feminism, and other feminisms that prioritize elite women, is characterized by a commitment to the wrong values. Feminisms for the few hold that feminism is a movement for individual freedom. Feminism needs to be committed, as bell hooks famously argued, to ending oppression.

THURSDAY, MARCH 13

Navigating Professional Growth and Workplace Best Practices
12:00 pm – 2:00 pm
Library and Technology Building, room 750
As part of Baruch College’s annual Ethics Week, the Robert Zicklin Center for Corporate Integrity is proud to welcome Stephanie Cuba, a seasoned real estate consultant based in New York City and East Hampton. This event will explore the intersection of professional development and workplace hygiene. Registration required.
