A reading and conversation with Harman Visiting Writer-in-Residence, George Packer. Mr. Packer, a staff writer for The New Yorker and the author of several books, including The Assassins’ Gate: America in Iraq, which was named one of the 10 best books of 2005 by the New York Times Book Review, will address issues of journalistic ethics.

John Grifonetti (BBA’90) President & CEO Creditex, Inc. An expert in electronic trading and brokerage, Grifonetti joined Creditex as President and COO in January 2006. He is a CPA and received a BBA in accounting from Bernard M. Baruch College. He is a trustee of the Baruch College Fund. Prof. Paquita Davis-Friday (Accountancy) will serve as moderator. Let’s Talk Ethics: the Student Recruiter’s Perspective
(See the video.) The Robert Zicklin Center for Corporate Integrity and the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy’s Center for the Public Trust present this panel discussion, which will feature:

• Ken Bouyer, Americas Director of Inclusiveness Recruiting, Ernst & Young
• Andre Lee, National Director of Talent Management, InRoads
• Blane Ruschak, Executive Director of University Relations & Recruiting, KPMG

Senior recruiters and subject matter experts from leading national companies will share with students ethical traps to avoid during the recruiting process, as well as campus and volunteer activities that highlight their positive moral and ethical standing. Presentation of the Abraham J. Briloff Prizes in Ethics
Presentation of these prizes this year will be part of the college’s annual Faculty Recognition Ceremony, which honors full-time members of the faculty for publications, external grants, and creative achievements. The Briloff Prizes are intended to stimulate scholarship in the field of ethics, with an emphasis on ethics in professional life. Honoring Abraham J. Briloff, Emmanuel Saxe Distinguished Professor of Accountancy Emeritus, these prizes are awarded annually to a faculty member (full time and/or adjunct) who has written an important topical article, essay, or book on ethics, and to a student or students (undergraduate and/or graduate) who has written an outstanding research paper or essay.

Some background information about

Ethics Week at Baruch College

Ethics Week was the idea of Prof. Roslyn Bernstein (English), who suggested at the concluding session of the Spring 2003 Seminar, “Ethics Across and Beyond the Curriculum,” that the college set aside one week during which members of the faculty would be encouraged to discuss ethical issues specific to their subjects/disciplines in their classrooms, and departments or programs would invite outside speakers for public presentations.

Ethics Week 2009 was organized by Associate Provost Dennis Slavin (646-660-6504).
