The Department of Natural Sciences in the Weissman School of Liberal
Arts and Sciences at Baruch College, formed in 1976 by a merger
of the departments of biology, chemistry, and physics, also includes
the discipline of environmental studies. The department is committed
to educating students for effective leadership in a global, political,
social and economic community. Our nation needs scientifically literate
citizens able to make informed decisions about public policy issues
involving, for example, the environment, energy resources, and human
health.
In addition to providing an understanding and appreciation of science
to all Baruch students, we provide the necessary coursework for
students to apply to medical, dental or other professional school.
Students who express a special interest in science are also able
to complete an ad hoc major in science in order to further develop
these interests in graduate or professional school or in the scientific
workforce.
