CUNY Vacancy Review Board Process Reintroduced
February 9, 2023
Dear Baruch Faculty and Staff:
In the interest of system-wide financial stability, CUNY has reintroduced the Vacancy Review Board (VRB) process. To comply with this requirement, Baruch has re-established its local Vacancy Review Board, which will include Linda Essig, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs; Kathy Cobb, Vice President for Administration and Finance; Olga Dais, Assistant Vice President, Legal Counsel, and Labor Designee; and Kenya Lee, Chief of Staff. Once onboarded, the Executive Director of the Office of Human Resources (OHR) will also serve on the local VRB.
Searches currently in process should proceed but will need to follow the VRB review protocols. The local VRB will meet weekly on Fridays through February 24 and on Tuesdays thereafter. For each search or personnel action, the completed VRB spreadsheet is due by NOON the day before the local VRB meeting. Vacancies are then considered by the CUNY VRB the following week. Thus, the first local VRB deadline is today, Thursday, Feb. 9, to assure consideration by the CUNY VRB next week. Details regarding the local process and schedule can be found on OHR’s Vacancy Review Board webpage.
Faculty being hired under the “Lecturer Initiative Phase 1,” the “Lecturer Initiative Phase 2” initiatives, and the “Cluster Hire Initiative” are exempt from this process. Pending offers made prior to February 3 may proceed without VRB approval.
Please see the FAQs here. Additional questions and submissions for review can be sent to VRB@baruch.cuny.edu.
Sincerely,
Dr. Linda Essig, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
Kathy Cobb, Vice President for Finance and Administration
