The Information Systems and Statistics Research Seminar Series, Prof. Gene Fisch

The recent documentary, “Three Identical Strangers,” highlights the account of identical triplets separated several months after birth and adopted by three different families, only to encounter one another by chance two decades later. As a result of their accidental meeting, they learn later in life about how they came to be separated, followed up, and studied by a psychiatrist researching their development. The purpose of this seminar is to investigate how such a study, referred to as an experiment of sorts, could come into being. I consider the historical roots of the study of monozygotic twins and their development, of human behavior and its assessment, the relationship between genetics and behavior, the concepts of experimental research design, and ethics involved in research with human participants. I also note the current state of affairs of research and ethics with human subjects. For more information contact Rongning Wu.

You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown

Dominique Plaisant directs Baruch students in this 1967 musical comedy. Clark Gezner wrote the book and lyrics, which are based Charles M. Schulz’s characters from the comic strip Peanuts. Gezner says “this musical is attributed to Schultz’s immensely human view of the world and his special ability to say it for all of us.” It’s a musical about life lessons seen under the umbrella of Schultz’s characters and how they navigate through it together. Presented by the Department of Fine and Performing Arts. Performances run through May 4.
