International Business Seminar: Entry Timing in a Fragmented Industry: Bandwagon Effects, Mutual Forbearance, and Strategic Groups, Naomi Gardberg, Xiaoli Yin
Baruch Professors, Naomi Gardberg and Xiaoli Yin, along with Memet Ghent, will present a paper entitled “Entry Timing in a Fragmented Industry: Bandwagon Effects, Mutual Forbearance, and Strategic Groups.” Owing to the generosity of the Weissman Center, lunch will be served. Business Opportunities in the Context of Climate Change, Laetitia De Marez, Director of Climate Analytics, New York
Laetitia De Marez, Director of Climate Analytics, New York, is a policy analyst who has been active in UNFCCC negotiations since 2003. Ms. De Marez specializes in climate finance and adaptation, as well as in readiness and mitigation actions by developing countries. She has been technical adviser to the Alliance of Small Island States on climate finance since 2010.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA): 8-hour training, Douglas Medina
Similar to “First Aid” and CPR, “Mental Health First Aid” teaches individuals how to help those experiencing mental health challenges or crises. Baruch College in collaboration with the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, the Baruch College Honors Program, with the support of the Provost’s Office will train up to 30 higher education professionals, including faculty and staff. Trainings are free of charge. The trainings will be conducted by Douglas Medina, Associate Director, Honors Program and Certified Mental Health First Aid Instructor and it will focus on higher education populations. (Co-trainer TBD.) Attendees will be given a certificate upon completion of the training. MUST BE PRESENT FOR THE ENTIRE 8-hour TRAINING IN ORDER TO RECEIVE THE CERTIFICATE. Human Perception of Climate Change: Evidence from Twitter for Shifting Baselines, Professor Frances C. Moore, Department of Environment Science & Policy University of California, Davis, Director of Climate Analytics
Frances C. Moore, lead author of a new study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences examining over 2 billion Twitter posts to understand the public’s perception of climate change, and acceptance of extreme weather as normal. Prof. Moore uses econometric analysis and economic modeling to assess economic and social impacts of climate change and assesses adaptability to climate impacts.

Robert C. Weaver Presidential Lecture Series: Leading from the Center, Ajay Nair (President, Arcadia University)
In celebration of our 50th anniversary, Baruch College proudly introduces the Robert C. Weaver Presidential Lecture Series. Robert C. Weaver, PhD, was Baruch’s first president and the first African American appointed to a U.S. cabinet position. In honor of his legacy, this lecture series will focus on diversity and leadership. The inaugural lecture, “Leading from the Center,” will be delivered by Arcadia University President Ajay Nair, PhD. Focusing on higher education’s mission in the 21st century and what it takes to be influential in the current context, attendees will come away inspired to take action. Dr. Nair is a nationally recognized expert in student affairs issues and an accomplished scholar of social justice, race, and ethnicity. He is the first person of color to be appointed president at Arcadia and is among the first college or university presidents of Indian-American descent in the U.S.

Environmental Journalism and the Climate Crisis: The Stakes for Democracy, Stacy Feldman, Co-Founder and Executive Editor, InsideClimate News
Stacy Feldman is co-founder and executive editor of InsideClimate News. In 2007, she helped launch the news organization. From 2008-2010, she was its energy reporter and foreign editor, reporting extensively on clean energy technologies, forestry issues and the United Nations climate change negotiations. InsideClimate News is a non-profit and non-partisan news organization, focusing on environmental journalism. The publication writes that it “covers clean energy, carbon energy, nuclear energy and environmental science—plus the territory in between where law, policy and public opinion are shaped.” InsideClimate News won the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting.
