Teaching Online: Fostering Meaningful Participation and Establishing a Course Rhythm with Your Students, facilitated by Seth Graves and Ron Whiteman, Center for Teaching and Learning

In the online environment, it’s important that your students have multiple and diverse opportunities to engage with each other and the course material. Especially vital is that they feel part of an understood pacing and schedule in the class, and are able to pinpoint their place in the progression of your curriculum. This workshop will explore some solutions for defining participation in your class, developing a mutual understanding of its pacing and deadlines, and using online learning platforms to create a humanizing and interpersonal experience. For more about this event and others, visit: https://blogs.baruch.cuny.edu/ctl/events/.

Baruch College VoiceThread Training, hosted by the VoiceThread Training Staff

BCTC, in collaboration with CUNY Central, has added a new asynchronous discussion tool to Blackboard called VoiceThread. While Blackboard already has a tool for asynchronous discussion, VoiceThread adds robust functionality that enables instructors and students to contribute recorded or uploaded digital media (e.g., images, audio files, videos) to a conversation within a course. VoiceThread trainers are offering online workshops for Baruch faculty.  After registering you will automatically be sent the login information for the session. Questions?: helpdesk@baruch.cuny.

Readying Your First Day of Class (Spring 2021 Workshop), hosted by the CTL Staff

Having trouble finalizing plans for your course’s first “meet-up” this spring semester? Or perhaps your plans are ready, but you need some feedback or a chance to play-test an idea or two. Join this workshop for an opportunity to hear about and experience what others are doing on their first day, and to further solidify plans of your own. Throughout this interactive workshop, we’ll also dedicate some time to helping you think through how to communicate well with students, both leading up to and during your first class period. We’ll also welcome questions on how to: create a warm and welcoming environment, pace the day out well, and iron out possible technical kinks in advance of your class time. Come work with us and “ready” your first day of class! For more about this event and others, visit: https://blogs.baruch.cuny.edu/ctl/events/.

Pre-registration is required for this workshop, click  HERE to register.

New to Teaching @ Baruch, hosted by the CTL Staff

Are you new to Baruch?  Teaching for the first time?  Unsure about what kind of first impression you want to make on your class?  Do you have questions about creating your syllabus? Join us the Center for Teaching and Learning and the Office of Adjunct Faculty Services in an informal discussion of these and other teaching issues pertinent to the beginning of the new semester. Feel free to bring your syllabus, introductory assignments and other materials. This is an excellent opportunity to meet other adjunct faculty and to learn about resources available to you as a faculty member. While the focus of the event is on those teaching at Baruch for the first time, all faculty are welcome. For more about this event and others, visit: https://blogs.baruch.cuny.edu/ctl/events/.
