Presidential Excellence Awards–call for nominations for 2023-24
November 9, 2023
From: Provost Linda Essig
The Presidential Excellence Awards Committees seek nominations for the Presidential Excellence Awards for Distinguished Scholarship, Distinguished Teaching, and Distinguished Service. All full-time faculty members who are in their fourth year or beyond at Baruch, with the exception of Distinguished Professors and Distinguished Lecturers, are eligible for these awards. Adjunct members of the faculty who have taught for a minimum of six semesters at Baruch (i.e., in their seventh semester or beyond) are eligible for the Distinguished Teaching Award (Adjunct Faculty). Faculty who have received Presidential Awards are only eligible for another award in the same category after ten years have passed.
Letters of nomination are welcome from any source within the Baruch community, including students, chairpersons, colleagues, staff members, deans, and departmental executive committees. Self-nominations are not accepted. Letters of nomination should reference the values and priorities of the Baruch College Strategic Plan: 2023-2028, as described below.
For the scholarship award, the letters of nomination should attest to the candidate’s excellent, innovative, and high-impact research, scholarship, and creative work, from the past five years, and its impact locally and globally.
For the teaching award, for both full-time faculty and the adjunct category, the nomination should describe the candidate’s outstanding achievements in instruction including evidence of excellent, accessible, and inclusive pedagogy.
For the service award, the nomination should include a description of the candidate’s outstanding service, distinct from teaching and scholarship, citing evidence of the candidate’s cultivation of a respectful and collaborative campus culture in which students, staff, and faculty feel a sense of belonging and connectedness.
Nominees will be contacted for the supporting materials needed by the Awards Committees. The three Awards Committees will be headed by the three deans and include previous winners.
To nominate someone, click on Presidential Excellence Awards Nomination Form or email your nominations to Vanessa.Cano@baruch.cuny.edu.
The deadline for nominations is Thursday, February 15, 2024. Nominations will not be accepted after this date.
Established and maintained by grants from the Baruch College Fund, the Presidential Excellence Awards are given to faculty members to stimulate and reward outstanding achievement and to enhance the College as a center of excellence. The awards are made by the President, acting on the recommendation of the Awards Committees. The recipient receives an honorarium and a certificate, and the names of all recipients are inscribed on plaques that are prominently displayed on the 14th floor of the Newman Vertical Campus.
Submissions of materials for all three award categories will be accepted in electronic form only. Questions? Please email any questions regarding the Presidential Excellence Awards to Vanessa Cano at Vanessa.Cano@baruch.cuny.edu.
