Dear Faculty:
I am pleased to extend a cordial invitation for you to attend the second annual Spring Forum on Tenure and Promotion. The Forum is scheduled for Monday, March 18, 2019 from 10am – 11:30am in NVC 14-250.
Tenure and promotion is arguably the most critical milestone in an academician’s career, as well as one of the most important decisions made by one’s peers and College administrators. In recognition of the significance of tenure and promotion, this forum is one way that we promote a college-wide dialogue on the subject.
This year ‘s panelists are Fenwick Huss, Dean of Zicklin School of Business, Jessica Lang, Chair of the English Department, Kannan Mohan, Professor of the Paul H. Chook Information Systems & Statistics Department, and College P&B member, and Cristina Balboa, Associate Professor of the Marxe School of Public and International Affairs. Prof. Balboa also was a recent Tenure and Promotion candidate.
The panelists will represent key roles in the tenure and promotion process. Once each participant has spoken briefly about their experience and/or role in the process, the Forum will be opened up for questions from the audience. You will hear directly from key players and, importantly, your peers.
The Forum is particularly informative for tenure-earning faculty. It is also an opportunity for tenured Associate and Full Professors to mentor junior colleagues and contribute insights from their own experiences. All professorial title faculty, regardless of rank, are encouraged to attend annually.
The Spring Forum on Tenure and Promotion is the newest addition to Baruch College’s evolving suite of faculty professional development opportunities around tenure and promotion, coordinated by the Office of Academic Affairs. Workshops focusing on mid-tenure review, binder preparation, and writing the personal statement, are held annually in the Fall for tenure-earning faculty. One-on-one consultation is also available by request.
I am deeply committed to supporting the success, growth, and contributions of all faculty at Baruch College. I look forward to seeing you at the Spring Forum on Tenure and Promotion.
Sincerely,
Dave Christy, PhD
