Welcome Dr. Lemiesz
January 27, 2014
To the Baruch College Community:
With our students and faculty back on campus today, our spring semester is officially underway. I am pleased to welcome Dr. Linda M. Lemiesz to Baruch College as my new Chief of Staff. Dr. Lemiesz will be responsible for providing support and leadership in the academic affairs of the College, as well as strategic budget planning. One of her first tasks will be working with faculty and staff in programs involving academic integrity, accreditation, professional development, and student success.
Dr. Lemiesz comes to Baruch with a long and impressive list of professional and academic achievements. She spent the last 23 years at The Cooper Union College, serving as the Dean of Student Services and head of the Office of Student Services, which encompassed student housing, career development, financial aid, and athletics and recreation. Her work in student affairs earned her a Fulbright fellowship for international administrators. She participated in the Oxford Round Table conference, an international educational organization in Oxford, England, and in the Aspen Institute’s Wye River Faculty Seminar.
After graduating from Smith College, where she majored in English and Comparative Literature, Dr. Lemiesz attended Columbia University on a doctoral fellowship. Her strong support of student rights issues led to her appointment on a committee that created the school’s first anti-sexual harassment policy. She later tackled the school’s diversity issues and helped revise the core curriculum.
Before graduating in 1987 with a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature, Dr. Lemiesz was appointed Assistant Dean of Student Affairs at the School of Engineering and Applied Science. She helped develop a diversity awareness program for new students, oversaw services for graduate students, and expanded programs for international students. She also served on various student life committees such as the school library, residence life and a task force on sexual violence.
In 1992, Dr. Lemiesz joined Cooper Union. Determined to further her education, she graduated from law school in 2007, and is licensed to practice in New York State.
Please join me in extending a warm welcome and hearty congratulations to Dr. Lemiesz.
