What to do if you are concerned about a student
February 6, 2020
From: Annie J. Virkus-Estrada, Associate Dean of Students
As you may be aware, many students face a great deal of stress. Sometimes this stress can be isolated to academic stress, or it can amplify other stressors in their lives. The Campus Intervention Team was established to help students who are dealing with a crisis.
Campus Intervention Team (CIT)
If you are concerned for a student’s wellbeing, you can notify the CIT by completing the incident communication form online, by emailing cit@baruch.cuny.edu or calling 646.312.4570.
All reports are confidential and will be managed by a member of the CIT.
Please let the CIT know of any student in which you fear they may harm themselves, others, or are displaying behaviors such as:
- Unusual or erratic behavior in class
- Extended absence from class by a typically engaged student
- Written work with troubling themes or references
- Verbal or written threats made by a student toward another student
- Written or verbal expressions of suicidal ideation
- Messages on social media with concerning language
- Other actions which cause an alarm or call into question the safety of the student or his/her peers
